SPX Slayer Play Grades: A+ Through D Explained
How SPX Slayer's confluence grading works — score, confidence, gate logic from GEX regime through BlackOut Intelligence, and what each grade means for sizing.
Every play on the SPX Slayer dashboard carries a confluence grade — a letter from A+ down to D — plus a numeric score (0-100) and a confidence percentage (0-100%). The grade is the engine's verdict on how many independent signals agree that this setup is worth taking. Here is how the grading pipeline works, gate by gate.
What confluence means here
Confluence is the overlap of independent inputs pointing in the same direction. A single bullish signal is a hypothesis; five signals from different data sources — positioning, flow, technicals, volatility regime, risk-reward — are confluence. The engine counts how many agree, weighs them, and outputs a score.
The sequential gate logic
The engine evaluates each candidate through a series of gates in order. If a play fails at any stage, it gets downgraded or rejected. The gates:
Gate 1 — GEX regime. Is the session's gamma exposure compatible with this trade's direction? A directional long in a positive-GEX, range-bound session gets penalized. This gate sets the ceiling — a play fighting the regime can never grade above B.
Gate 2 — VWAP posture. A bullish play with price above VWAP gets a tailwind; below VWAP it swims upstream. The VWAP pill on the dashboard shows this in real time.
Gate 3 — EMA stack alignment. Are the 20, 50, and 200 EMAs stacked in the trade's direction? A bullish call with 20 > 50 > 200 earns full marks. A mixed or inverted stack costs points.
Gate 4 — Flow bias. Is institutional options flow leaning the same way? The engine reads net premium bias from HELIX and checks whether aggressive sweeps support the play.
Gate 5 — Risk-to-reward. The R:R on the specific contract — gain to target versus risk to stop. Plays with R:R below 1:1 get penalized regardless of other gates.
Gate 6 — BlackOut Intelligence verdict. Largo AI assesses full context — macro calendar, earnings proximity, regime stability, conflicting signals the mechanical gates cannot weigh. This gate can veto an otherwise-passing play or boost one where every gate aligned.
Gate 7 — Option ticket. The engine confirms that the selected contract's liquidity, spread width, and premium are acceptable. A great setup on an illiquid contract gets downgraded.
The grades
A+ (score 90-100, confidence 85-100%). Every gate cleared with strength. Regime, flow, technicals, R:R, and Intelligence all agree. These are rare — most sessions produce zero or one. Size with conviction when they appear.
A (score 75-89, confidence 70-84%). Strong confluence with one minor disagreement — perhaps the EMA stack is mixed while everything else aligns. Still a high-conviction setup; full standard sizing.
B (score 55-74, confidence 50-69%). Solid but not unanimous. Typically two gates are neutral or mildly conflicting. Playable, but size down — this is a half-position grade.
C (score 35-54, confidence 30-49%). Marginal. Several gates disagree or are neutral. Only experienced traders should consider these, and only at minimum size. The engine surfaces them for transparency, not as recommendations.
D (score 0-34, confidence 0-29%). Failing. The setup lacks meaningful confluence. The engine logs it but does not suggest action. If you find yourself wanting to trade a D-grade play, step back — you are overriding the filter, not using it.
Play actions: the lifecycle
Each play moves through a lifecycle of action states:
- SCANNING — the engine is evaluating the candidate. No action for you yet. - WATCHING — the play passed initial gates but hasn't hit entry criteria. Watch the level. - BUY — entry criteria are met. The play is at its graded price with the graded R:R. - HOLD — the position is open and within the expected range. No action needed. - TRIM — the play has hit a partial target. Consider taking partial profits. - SELL — the play has hit its full target or stop. Exit.
The action state updates in real time as price moves. A play can cycle from BUY back to WATCHING if price pulls away from the entry zone before you act — it does not chase.
How to use grades for sizing
The simplest framework: A+ and A get your standard size. B gets half. C gets quarter size or skip. D is a no-trade. The grade tells you how much agreement exists among independent signals; your size should reflect that agreement.
