SPX Slayer Lotto & Power Hour Plays
How SPX Slayer's Lotto and Power Hour engines work — strike selection, timing windows, premium caps, and what separates them from the main play engine.
The main SPX Slayer play engine runs throughout regular trading hours, looking for high-confluence 0DTE setups at standard strikes and premium levels. Alongside it, two specialized engines target the edges of the session where gamma dynamics are most extreme: the Lotto Play engine in the morning and the Power Hour engine near the close. Each has its own timing window, strike logic, and risk rules — they are not looser versions of the main engine, but separate systems designed for different market conditions.
Lotto Play engine (7:00 - 10:30 AM ET)
The Lotto engine fires during the first hours of the session, when gamma is at its peak on 0DTE contracts and intraday moves can be oversized relative to the rest of the day.
Strike selection. Lotto plays target strikes roughly 25 points out of the money — close enough that a strong move brings the contract into play, far enough that premium is cheap and R:R is asymmetric.
Target and stop. A 25-point target and 8-point stop (~3:1 ratio). You expect to lose more often than you win, but the wins are large enough to make expected value positive over a sample — a classic skew trade.
Premium cap. The engine enforces a VIX-indexed premium cap — the maximum you pay adjusts with current VIX. When VIX is elevated, the cap rises; when VIX is low, the cap tightens. This prevents overpaying in a calm market where the asymmetric payoff disappears.
Why the morning window. Between 7:00 and 10:30 AM ET, 0DTE gamma is at its session maximum — delta can swing dramatically on even modest moves. By 10:30, gamma has decayed and the session's character has committed, so the engine shuts off.
Power Hour engine (2:45 - 3:15 PM ET)
The Power Hour engine fires in the final 30 minutes before the close becomes imminent. By this point in the session, 0DTE contracts have almost no time value left — theta has eaten most of the premium — and any remaining gamma is binary: a move either happens now or it does not.
Strike selection. Power Hour targets strikes roughly 8 points out of the money — much closer than Lotto, because with so little time left a 25-point OTM strike is essentially worthless.
Target and stop. A 13-point target and 4-point stop (~3:1 ratio, scaled to the tighter late-session range).
Premium and quality caps. Maximum premium is $0.50 — paying more for a near-OTM contract at 2:45 PM overpays for what is essentially a binary outcome. The engine also requires a minimum score of 45 and minimum grade of B from the confluence filter.
One play max. The engine limits output to a single Power Hour play per session — with binary outcomes, one well-selected play is a strategy; three is gambling.
Why the narrow window. The 2:45 - 3:15 PM ET window captures peak gamma decay rate. Contracts expiring in under an hour can double or zero on a single SPX tick. By 3:15, too little time remains for even an 8-point move to develop.
How they differ from the main play engine
The main engine looks for highest-confluence setups at standard OTM distances across all of RTH. Lotto and Power Hour are edge-of-session specialists:
- Lotto exploits morning gamma amplitude with wider strikes and larger targets — low-probability, high-payoff. - Power Hour exploits end-of-day decay with tight strikes and cheap premium — a binary bet on a late push. - Main engine operates in the core session where positioning data is richest and the gate logic has the most inputs.
